PMASI is currently run by an elected board of directors, who donate a lot of time and effort into making the club better for it's members.PMAS was originally conceived back in 1994 by Anthony Calfo and Bob Dolan. The first meeting of PMAS was April of 1995 at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2000 PMAS became incorporated, thus the current name PMASI. "It is our desire as a society to create an atmosphere that encourages and supports the appreciation of a captive marine environment in an ecologically sensitive way. Our goal is the creation of a self-sustaining hobby through the propagation of marine fish, corals, and invertebrates. We will accomplish our goals through the free and open exchange of information, experience, and ideas. Our society will provide the fellowship of like-minded aquarists and the guidance needed by all of us if we are to attain our goals. Our members should strive to provide a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters the free expression of creative and unique approaches to solving the problems inherent in our attempts to propagate marine species. We want this society to be a world-class organization, contributing new information to the existing body of knowledge in the field of marine biology."
